FAQ

FRS Rheinfähren Niederheimbach Lorch

The Rhine ferry between Lorch and Niederheimbach has been operated by FRS Rheinfähren GmbH since 2026. The history of this ferry connection dates back to 1892. At that time, the ferry service was founded by the Schnaas family and run over several generations.
Michael Schnaas had been working as a ferryman since 1984 and took over the management of the company in 1991. Under his leadership, the ferry remained an integral part of regional mobility on the Middle Rhine.
The current ferry was built in 1993 under construction number 393 at Schmitt Stahlbau GmbH in Moselkern and has been in reliable service ever since.

With the takeover by FRS Rheinfähren GmbH in 2026, the traditional ferry connection will pass into new hands. The long history of the family-run ferry company forms an important foundation for this.
